SIGACCESS Best Paper Award

The SIGACCESS Best Paper Award is presented to the individual(s) judged by an awards committee to have written the best paper appearing in the ASSETS conference proceedings. Recipients are presented with a certificate from ACM at the conference.

SIGACCESS Best Student Paper Award

The SIGACCESS Best Student Paper Award is presented to the individual(s) judged by an awards committee to have written the best student paper appearing in the ASSETS conference proceedings. To be considered for the Best Student Paper Award, the student must be the first author.

Selection Process for Best Paper Award and Best Student Paper Award

Based on the technical paper reviews, the Program Chair selects a shortlist of best paper candidates. These are discussed and reviewed by a selection committee drawn from the program committee. Membership on this selection committee is limited to those who have no conflict of interest with the shortlisted papers, as defined by the ACM SIGACCESS Conflict of Interest Policy.

ASSETS 2020 Best Artifact Award

Who is eligible for this award?

Applicants must have an accepted paper, poster, or demo related to the project at ASSETS 2020.

What counts as an artifact?

Your artifact must be some version of your project that can be downloaded, purchased, or accessed by the general public. Examples include apps in mobile or desktop app stores, physical devices that can be purchased, public data sets, or web apps that are publicly available.

Open source projects are eligible if they include appropriate documentation and are presented in a form that can be used by a non-expert computer user.

What is the benefit of participating in this program?

All applicants will be acknowledged in the ASSETS 2020 program. Links to each project will be included in the program. One winner and one runner-up will be chosen by the program committee.

How will the winners be chosen?

The committee will select the winner and runner-up based on the project’s contribution to the field of accessibility.

How do I apply?

For authors submitting in 2020, you will be given an opportunity to include a link to the publicly available work as part of the paper, poster, and demo submission process. Authors will also be asked to write a paragraph describing how their work will directly benefit end users, developers, and/or accessibility researchers.

Major Awards in the Field of Computer Accessibility

SIGACCESS Award for Outstanding Contributions to Computing and Accessibility

The SIGACCESS Award for Outstanding Contributions to Computing and Accessibility recognizes individuals who have made significant and lasting contributions to the development of computing technologies that improve the accessibility of media and services to people with disabilities. The award includes a $1000 honorarium, an award certificate of recognition, and an invitation for the recipient to present a keynote talk at the ASSETS Conference. The award is presented every other year. The selection process is available at the SIGACCESS website.

SIGACCESS ASSETS Paper Impact Award

The SIGACCESS ASSETS Paper Impact Award is presented every other year (odd-numbered years) to the authors of an ASSETS conference paper presented 10 or more years prior to the award year which has had a significant impact on computing and information technology that addresses the needs of persons with disabilities. The award includes a $500 prize and a plaque.
